To identify the various aspects to be considered to achieve an impression that is fit for purpose in fixed prosthodontics and the clinical techniques that will deliver this. We will review the objectives of an impression for the fabrication of a fixed prosthesis, understand how the properties of different materials can affect the outcome, understand how the materials can be used and combined to achieve the desired outcome, review and outline each of the clinical stages involved in taking an impression and valuate the final impression and make a decision if it is fit for purpose.
